As always, before installing ANY new software ( or hardware ) of ANY kind, set a system restore
point, close all running applications except firewall.
Some applications suggest that you also disable your anti virus software as the
install may trigger a false positive.
Only install things one at a time ( exceptions being some Windows®
updates ), restart your PC
( even if the installer doesn't require it ) and watch for anything
unusual. It's a good idea to disconnect from the internet if you have a permanent
broadband connection. Antivirus programs will sometimes falsely interpret an installation as a malware attack ( usually noted in install instructions ).
There is always the possibility of a
software or hardware conflict ( make sure you install the correct driver version for any new
hardware ) so run a few different applications and check that all is well also look for things
like erratic sound card and ps2 keyboard operation.
The companies and products shown are by no means a definitive or complete list, as mentioned
earlier they are just a few examples which I am familiar with.
I personally use all the software mentioned on the
security page and have not experienced any
problems that could be attributed to day to day use.
If you do manage to screw anything up after reading this page don't blame me ( or anyone else ).
I don't have any control over what anyone else does and I'm not responsible for someone exceeding their
capabilities and / or knowledge and getting themselves into strife.
Websites like
allexperts.com can often help, as always if all else fails read the instructions
☺

Note :
Infringement of copyright ( ie. unauthorised copying and use ) for commercial
gain is now a criminal offence in Australia, the
Business Software Assoc. of Australia website has details. Example - if you purchase software ( perhaps for use in a small business
office ) with a single user license agreement then duplicate and install it on more than one
computer you are committing a criminal offence.
